Top 5 All Star Snubs

Every year we here the same thing after the All Star rosters are announced “where is……?” The  the debate rages until the game starts, and then nobody cares.  Just like nobody actually cares about the All Star game at all anymore as well.  It’s a shame, but we must push on. Here are the All Time snubs according to me, and frankly my opinion is the only one that matters.
5- C.C. Sabathia (2011) – Even though he was named as a replacement, and then was replaced himself he WILL get credit for making the team.  But when the initial list came out a week ago, C.C. was left off and it was an abomination. C.C. leads the majors in wins with 13 against 4 losses, he has a 2.42 ERA in the AL East, and he’s holding down a rotation that features Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon and a dude named Nova.  How was he left off the All Star roster?  I would have considered him for the starter and I hate the Yankees.

4- Albert Pujols (2002) – If you’ve been paying attention, you would be shocked to know that Pujols has been left off the All Star team once before this season. In 2002 Pujols finished with a .314 avg., 34 homers and 127 RBI on his way to a second place finish in the MVP voting for that season.  I don’t know what his numbers were at the break, but I guarantee they were All Star worthy.  I mean even this season with Pujols having a down season and missing nearly a month with an injury, he’s hitting .280 with 18 homers and 50 RBI.  WOW, what a bad year.

3- Travis Hafner (2006) – In what had to be one of the greatest seasons by first basemen in the AL, the young Travis Hafner was left off the All Star roster after putting up MVP-like numbers for the first half of the season. Hafner was hitting .319, with 24 homers and 70 RBI at the break.  He lost out to David Ortiz with a .277 avg, 29 homers and 82 RBI and Jim Thome with a .265, 29 homers and 75 RBI, but don’t you think Hafner should’ve made that team somehow? Carry a third guy at first base. Seems simple enough. Maybe the Royals just don’t get a player on the roster when a guy like that has to sit out. It’s an outrage.

2- Chipper Jones (1999) – Speaking of outrage, the 1999 NL MVP Chipper Jones was not an All Star in ’99. What? Did he have the mother of all 2nd half performances in ’99 or was there a massive snub in effect here? Apparently not with Chipper having a .313 avg., and 21 homers. Matt Williams, who did start the ASG in ’99 had slightly better numbers at the break with a .318 avg and 23 dingers, but Chipper’s on-base percentage was off the charts and isn’t there a back-up third basemen? Was the NL only carrying one third basemen in ’99? WOW, did they drop the ball on this one?

1-Mariano Rivera (1998) – I will just let the numbers speak for this one, I’m done gushing over Yankees this week. 1-0, 1.14 ERA, 22 saves, and a .663 WHIP.  That’s just sick. How do you not take Mariano with numbers like that? It’s an abomination.
